We Can All Get Along If...: Book Summary

This book project by students in teacher Ray Elliott's Urbana (IL) High School English and journalism classes began in reaction to the 1992 trial of four police officers in the beating of Rodney King and the subsequent Los Angeles riot. The students asked people in their community and throughout the world via mail, media coverage and the Internet to finish the sentence, "We can all get along if. ..." The result is a thoughtful collection of responses that run the gamut from insightful to cynical, humorous to hopeful.
